Srilanka defeated Ireland by 9 wickets 

After thrashing the Windies Ireland takes on Srilanka in their first Super 12  in Hobart on October 23 (Sunday). Getting confidence from the previous match defeating the Windies, The Irish captain Andrew Balbirnie elected to bat first after winning the toss. However, they could not get the kind of start they had wanted. Skipper Balbirnie went out early in the second over. The Irish players were seen in deep trouble facing the Srilankan bowling attack. The previous match hero Paul Starling also failed to score runs freely as the Lankan bowlers were giving them less room, not allowing them to score runs easily. None of the Irish batters was able to resist the Lankan Bowling. Lauren Tector was seen fighting alone from one end scoring 45 of 42 deliveries, while the opener Paul Starling Scored 34 of 35 balls. The Irish kept on losing wickets at regular intervals which help Srilankan in restricting Ireland to a low score of 128/8 in 20 Overs. Maheesh Theekshana and Wanindu Hasaranga took two wickets in their quota of 4 overs.

While coming to chase the low target set by the Ireland team Srilanka got off to a flying start. Both the opening pairs Dhananjay De-Silva and Kusal Mendis provided Srilanka with a solid start. The duo contributed 63 runs for the first wicket. After then they lost De-Silva. 

Dhananjay De-Silva got caught behind the wicket against Gareth Delaney. He scored 31 of 25 balls. After then Charith Asalanka came to bat. They both completed the run chase in 15 overs. Mendis remain unbeaten on 68 off 43 balls and his partner Charith Asalanka made 31* off 22. They win by 9 wickets.
